On Saturday we went to the 1st (of many hopefully) Puma RunWild race. It was held at the glorious Hillcrest Farm in Durbanville, Cape Town. Set in a majestic quarry we set off as a collective on a fun day out. There were no prizes for first place. Awesome. Only 100 people were allowed to participate and we got 2 tickets! Double awesomeness!
You could try out Puma Running Shoes for the day, and this gave alot of people access to the brand that may have been too scared to try it before. All in all, a splendid idea. Well done. Many thanks to Marilu for the awesome pictures, great gorgeous company and some shared memories.
We`re all about the good cheer and Runners World allowed me to video the whole thing. Rocking. Check out the Runners World site as well as My Video site for the video in higher resolution. Check the video here and the pics after the jump (where it says “continue reading…”) …
Man what a weekend. The sun came out, we did the epic Puma RunWild out in Durbanville on Saturday, which was a 15km trek out in the mountains. Full report coming and a video of the run as I ran with a videocamera, thus logging my first videoblog this week for Runners World Magazine
On Sunday I decided to do some quick stuff in the morning i.e. a 5km and a 2.5km trail race at the Atlantic Tri Club Xroads duathlon series. The race was awesome and I will get a full post up about it this week once we start travelling.
I then got on the bike and spent 2 hours in the wind (it was one of those roads where I road a loop and never got the wind behind me, in fact, it got stronger and more head-on the further I went) riding 70km in the late afternoon. I was fast, more than I thought. (more…)
So here we go testing the new YouTube feature on the new super slick blog design. This is one of my favorites and I hope you see the light side of this too…..

Awesome.
I can with full confidence say that there was a moment when my life changed for the better. There are many such moments but one of those is a real highlight. The day I changed myself from a goal orientated person to a process orientated person was a big one. Equate it to finding a new favourite colour, getting a drivers license or moving to DSTV if you want, but this is bigger. (more…)
I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemies eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
“Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!”

I am going through a tough phase in my training and its something I prepared for, but as always, what we are prepared for rarely matches the real world situation. Its the cats and gnomes theory (another whole article to be published soon I promise) all over what you expect and you end up with that real “Wing It” sense of reality.
This is me if you leave me alone for a few minutes at the moment:

Glad we cleared that up.
I am 4 weeks away from getting through a real tough winter in terms of training, work, people management, financial (more…)

So today I went to the American Embassy to score a visa to the United States of Ameeeeeeeeericaa. The process was tedious and involved 90 minutes of waiting and a 2 minute inverview. I was told I wasnt allowed to sit down whilst waiting for my interview to begin. “Capitalism” sure was allowing me any options whilst I was in their midst.
Anyhow. I got it and now I am off to the Big Island. To race this beast that is the World Ironman Championships. Lets have a run-down of what it exactly is I`ll be doing, for those out there who dont do tri… (more…)

Today`s picture is of a old note. Its of significance because money and wealth are a reference in this article, but also because that note is close to my heart. Thats my grandfathers signature on it, and today I miss his wisdom and his way.
I have to thank Jean for a piece of wisdom shared whilst training for 4 hours indoors last weekend. (more…)

I strive to be a balanced, calm, well educated, fit, supportive, understanding human to the people in my life who mean a lot to me. I support them in their quests to achieve their goals and although I don’t always understand them, I best try to I accept them as they are.
Often, I can be too understanding and wipe things under the rug in the hopes that they will go away in the long term. Unfortunately this means I compromise my own happiness at times, just for the sake of “keeping the peace”. My experience says that sometimes things do go away; sometimes they come back as they were before, and indeed, at times they come back with the fury of 12 women scorned. Literally. (more…)
