So I am a generally inquisitive guy and I have a few profiles online but some I have never shared as they are new. I thought you may enjoy some of the platforms for your own application. Here is where you can find me:
Twitter is where I share news and happenings. Give me a follow.
Facebook has it’s own Urban Ninja page. Or is that the other way around?
Posterous is where I place arbitrary photos and clips. I am using it less and less and am finding I am enjoying Tumblr a little more.
Tumblr is my newest toy. I am treating it as an inspiration-only-no-ads-platform and keeping it as simple as possible.
Pinterest is something I have been playing with for a bit, basically assembling a pin board for future houses I want to own, places I want to travel and inspirational quotes. Oh, and awesome dog photos.
Work is where I spend the most time. I work with an incredible team of people. We build incredible systems for some of the best clients in the world. I am excited to walk in the door here, every morning. I have worked here for a year now.
Family farms are quite a thing and ours is especially fantastic. The focus is quality, patience and having the zen to wait that extra year for the product to be perfect, not only drinkable. We are drinking `06 vintage now and will continue to age gracefully with this place, just like the vines.
So that is really where you will find the bits of me all over the place on the Internet. A bit of a boring post, I realise, but perhaps you find you have a passion which suits one of the platforms – twitter, tumblr, pinterest or something else – and perhaps you start your own piece of real estate and who knows, perhaps you discover an incredible hidden talent and you change the world somehow…

People always remark how busy I am. After I watched this today it made me wonder if I am one of those people who are addicted to being busy.
What keeps me busy?
1. Work – current and future projects.
2. Coaching athletes – its far more time consuming than you think.
3. Urban Ninja – this site is time consuming.
4. Relationships – nuff said. relationships, with humans, requires time.
What have I done to cut down on commitments to time and energy?
1. Kept my projects down to a bare minimum. I used to have 6 ideas I was working on. I currently have 2.
2. Reduce social media time. Are you addicted to Facebook? Do you wake up and look at twitter (to see what other people are doing) before tending to the amazing person lying next to you?
3. Reduce mental junk by planning properly.
Am I addicted to being busy?
Not at all. In fact, I am working hard so that I can be permanently unbusy once I have children so that I can be a full time dad. That’s the most honorable job I can think of doing, so that’s what gets me up in the morning.
Can you sit, and be quiet? I know many people who cant sit in a restaurant waiting for 10minutes for someone to arrive without tweeting, facebooking, checking email, sending 3 sms’s and calling someone. Unless all these things don’t relate to your BIG THING, big picture and hugest ever goal achievement, maybe you should be sitting for 10 minutes and just be totally amazed at how the world doesn’t fall apart around you every day. Watch the people and realise they each have their own world going on around them, and if they are addicted to being busy, watch them and see how it destroys their inner peace, their reason for being a beautiful human being and blurs their reality.
So, are you addicted?
I do alot of work with The Wine Show Jo’burg and part of that is a Facebook strategy with wine and keeping people engaged around the show, to match the above the line presence we have of the show (which is already doubled in size vs 2008′s bookings). Today I launched a new initiative for March, and the email went exactly like this…
Wine Show Jo’burg has done it again. For March, we are going to have our Facebook Fans go on a treasure hunt (pre-empting Easter by a whole month!) for a shot at some wine valued at over R10 000.00
Based on the success of the launch of group, we have cajoled 5 of our farms into supplying us with some fantastic wines and even, some bubbles it seems.
We are going to keep you busy all month with a small effort each week required from your side. At the end of it, those who got the answers right will go into a draw for 1 of 10 boxes of wine worth over R1000 each with wines from Kleine Zalze Wines, Creation Wines, Kleinhoekkloof Wines, Avontuur Wines and some bubbles from Viljoensdrift Wines.
Who’s excited? We are! So at the end of March, in roughly 2 months, we would have given away R16 000.00 worth of premium wines. We would happily drink it ourselves, but we much prefer to watch you fight over it. Being at 700 members now, we can brag about the following things happening at The Wine Show Jo’burg (29th to 31st May, Gallagher Conference Centre, Midrand) as well:
Then, send us some information that you may want to have discussed on the page, so that we can loads topics of conversation for us to debate around. There is a request from our side. Please; leave Joost out of it! Obviously, the usual rules and regulations apply. To view those, mail us for a copy.
So, invite your friends to join the group (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=48096975414) and lets all go on a treasure hunt… details to follow on Monday!
How do we like that? This is going to be a fun month. I hope you all join the groups and win some of the wines! Have a great weekend.
So we are doing a massive giveaway for March, and the way to do that is to join the group, and do the treasure hunt. This disproves the theory that wine cant be used with social media. You just need to provide incentive (i.e. wine works well) and they will comment, create and converse with you. Isnt that what social media is all about?
Go on, join the group…
What do you mean whats From The Couch ? You haven’t been there? click HERE people and wake up!
From The Couch is the brainchild of two of the most enthusiastic people I know. They are the brothers Couch, or Marc and David Perel to the rest of us. In their own words…
“We own a Web company based in Cape Town, South Africa and have great passion and opinions for the things we love most… The Web, Motorsport and Cycling. This is our personal Video blog.
On this blog we will chat about any topics that come to our mind (although the above mentioned will be our main focus). We won’t always be right and I bet the majority of the time you won’t agree but that is the awesomeness of this site. We hope you get involved and interact with us on a daily basis.
Expect a video at least once a week with bonus snippets along the way. We also plan to have focussed weekends when there are F1 and Cycling events.”
Right on. (more…)
